Show People They Matter
About a month ago, someone I was working with shared that her husband had undergone emergency heart surgery — 90% blockage, caught just in time. He’s doing fine now.
When I saw her again last week, I made sure to ask,
“How’s your husband doing?”
And just as importantly,
“How are you doing?”
That’s not a strategy. That’s just being human.
But it’s also the kind of leadership people remember.
Lately, I’ve been focusing on Trek’s 6 Rules of Hospitality — which I’ve been reframing as Leadership principles.
Trek’s third rule is simple:
Show People They Matter
One way?
→ Remember something they told you
→ Recall the details
→ Acknowledge the moments that matter in their lives
In Executive Coaching, I work with leaders to build real connection — not surface-level check-ins, but the kind of awareness that makes people feel seen.
Because when people feel seen, they engage.
When they engage, they give more.
And when that happens — business wins.
Lead with presence.
Lead with care.
And don’t forget the details.
They’re what people remember most.
