See Something Bigger
Some of you know I love to cycle. This past weekend, I discovered a book called Trek — a historical and cultural deep dive into one of the most successful companies in the cycling industry.
What surprised me? It’s packed with leadership and culture insights — two of my biggest passions — and I was immediately locked in.
The book opens with a powerful mantra from John Burke, Trek’s President and son of Founder Richard Burke:
“See something bigger.”
This message sets the tone for Trek’s brand, its culture, and its leadership philosophy.
As leaders, we’re constantly asked to look beyond the day-to-day. What’s next? What’s bigger? We’re called to set vision, direction, and momentum — a challenge that takes courage, tenacity, vulnerability, and heart.
John writes about what he hopes every Trek employee experiences:
“My hope is that you grow here, that you build relationships, that you learn, that you put your heart into your work — and that you have fun.”
Growth. Relationships. Learning. Leading with heart. Enjoying the ride.
These are the cornerstones of effective leadership — and too often, they’re underestimated.
So here’s the question I’m left with:
How are you gearing these values into your leadership brand – to see something bigger?
